At the beginning of innoVent and infraVest in 1996, there were already several companies active in the area of wind energy in Germany. Thus the long-term goal already set at the founding of the company was not just to concentrate on the German market, but to expand beyond the German borders. Since then, the activities have rapidly spread to our European neighbors as well as to other continents, so that today the Group has a large, internationally promising portfolio of numerous wind projects in different stages of development.
Our first wind farm project outside of Europe (16.5 MW) went on line in 2003 in Qingdao, China, followed by 50MW and 76MW wind parks in Taiwan in 2006 and 2007 respectively. Further international projects will be realized in the near future.
infraVest has its focal point on the Asian market. It is one of the few foreign developers with permanent presence in China consisting of 4 offices with a staff of more than 30 people spread over different locations, the operation in Taiwan alone disposing of more than 50 highly qualified staff carrying out development, planning and turn-key construction work. InnoVent, on the other hand, is active in different European countries and Brazil. The actual processing of international projects is done by subsidiary companies in each country with the important know-how being exported out of Germany.
A further field of activity of our company is the use of offshore wind energy. After the successful wide-spread use of wind energy on land, the time has come to start the use of wind energy on the open seas. The realisation of our first offshore wind energy project is worked on by our subsidiary company EOS Offshore AG, specially founded to meet all aspects of the technical demands as well as the economical. A first Phase of 400 MW in the North Sea got final approval in July 2006.
Our strategy is to focus on markets where we really have deep knowledge and access to a wide network of the elite of society. On the other hand, we spread the inherent risks of the (wind energy) markets over a larger geographic distribution of countries. In other words, we have two focuses, one is on markets with a stable legal framework for wind energy with a well functioning legal system like Germany, Spain, and France and recently also Taiwan; the other is on the huge market potential given by China, Turkey and Brazil. In both fields we have had good harvest till now. During the last decade, we have been able to complete 350 MW of wind parks in these two extreme categories of regions, i.e. in Germany, China and Taiwan.
